10 Best Gift Ideas for Engineers and Engineering Students

Updated: Jan 13

So you need some gift ideas for an ENGINEER hey?

Well I just compiled a list of 10 gifts I believe would get an Engineering (or Engineering Student) VERY excited for whatever occassion you've got going on!

This blog was inspired by the video below, check it out if you haven't!

But for those of you who like to read, here's my list of gifts!

These product links are affiliate links which means if buy something through the links I'll receive a small commission. Note that some of these may be very similar products to the ones I directly mention, be sure to check them out!

  1. Elegoo Super Starter Kit

Elegoo Super Starter Kit: https://amzn.to/49t5DPP (Amazon)

This one I personally bought a while back was this Elegoo Super Starter Kit because I wanted to learn the very basics of electronics since we dont really learn about it in mechanical engineering and its just cool for future DIY projects. This is great for beginners, and a perfect gift for those who want to learn about electronics while having a bunch of fun.

  1. 3D Printer

    Sovol SV06: https://amzn.to/3ZrJqxS (Amazon)

This is definitely a bigger budget item which can get pretty expensive if you want to really get a high end printer but obviously so so so cool to have. Sadly, I don't have one myself (so sad) but it's definitely something I want to look to purchase in the future.

A bunch of engineering students have 3D printers at home, especially those that have those creative personal projects. If you are looking to get one I did some research and theres some great reviews about the Sovol SV06 (and overall Bambu Lab 3D printers). If you end up getting a 3D printer please do let me know what you get cause thats definitely something Im gonna be looking into to own in the future!

  1. Lego

Lego (This is a link for the Technic AMG F1): https://amzn.to/3B35mGi (Amazon)

This one really speaks for itself and is just one of the safest gifts you could get for an Engineer. I mean, Engineers love to build! Whether your into cars or architecture it really covers so many interests Lego just makes everyone happy. And really just building anything just for fun really can help with taking some time away from the stress of live and just literally enjoying a hobby (It's also a nice activity to do together with a partner <3 )

  1. SONY XM5

    Sony XM5 (Headphones): https://amzn.to/4i7jnUb (Amazon)

Engineers and students work a lot and need a way to keep away the distractions. Which is why my next item are amazing for anyone who needs to lock in and thats sound cancelling headphones. If you want to get overhead headphones one a safe purchase are the Sony XM5s. I don't own them personally, but my sister does, and well, let's just say they are worth the hype.

  1. Ergonomic/Gaming Chair

    Ergonomic Chair: https://amzn.to/4eNsvKB (Amazon)

Sticking with the theme of working at a desk (a lot)! Which is why the next item up is an ergonomic chair. This helps a ton with productivity since you want to feel comfortable while at studying or working especially for so many hours. A regular office chair is just not going to be great for you in the long run.

  1. Atomic Habits

    Atomic Habits: https://amzn.to/4g03z3I (Amazon)

Now lets say you wanted to get an item that will spark productivity. Well this next item, which is actually a book, was FANTASTIC, and I'm personally not even really a reader! It's Atomic Habits by James Clear which is a super popular book amongst those who want to be a) productive and b) create good habits while c) breaking bad ones.

  1. Apple Airtag + Case

    Apple Airtag: https://amzn.to/4fMma3j (Amazon)

    Airtag Case: https://amzn.to/3ZrfxOa (Amazon)

Engineers love tech they can use on the daily, and this one is especially for my Apple lovers. Get them a case too which can clip onto some keys, a backpack, or whatever else you would lose sleep over losing! Integrates so well with with Apple devices too, you don't know you need one until you get one FOR REAL.

  1. Logitech MX Master 3S Mouse

Logitech MX Master 3S Mouse: https://amzn.to/3Z930Oi (Amazon)

Here is one of my favourite purchases from the list and it's the Logitech MX Master 3S! I was skeptical about at first because well, I’ve never thought of having a high end super fancy mouse until now. What a game changer this one has been for my workflow!

The mouse is really quiet and has a few extra buttons and wheel on the side. You can customize the actions of all of these too! It fits really nice in your hand with that ergonomic feel and just an overall amazing work mouse (can you tell I'm happy with it yet).

  1. Cube Pomodoro Timer

    Cube Pomodoro Timer: https://amzn.to/3Z3aXEo (Amazon)

Yes, a TIMER. This item has been so great in aiding with my studying and productivity, but the coolest part is it's a gravity cube timer. Each of the 4 sides on the cube has a number on it, so you literally just flip the cube over to the number you want to set the timer at, and it'll start! It also comes with other features like setting your own manual time and a BUILT IN POMODORO CLOCK (cool right?).

  1. Digital Caliper

    Digital Caliper: https://amzn.to/3Zps8Sa (Amazon)

Engineers and students are surrounded by numbers, especially measurements. And whenever I read something like, the diameter of the cylinder is 10 mm, I always find myself thinking, what exactly does that even look like? So I bought a caliper to help me with not only that, but just being able to measure things accurately and conveniently!

Its almost guaranteed that once this lands on an Engineer or student's desk that they are going to have to fight the urge to not measure everything on a daily basis. I know, seems silly at first but it put a smile on my face as a current engineering student, so why not share that with others in the engineering community as well!
